Try http://www.a2a.org.uk/ This has some good things for Devon. There aren't many parish registers for Devon on the IGI and virtually nothing is directly from the registers (despite it saying extracted). It's worth looking at Devon FHS's website as they have done a great deal of transcribing. |

Hi Elizabeth Ancestry is the best site for census information. It has 1851-1901 and we hope to see 1841 soon. Heather |

Family History societies often produce CDs or Microfiche with transcripts of parish registers - I've bought some useful ones from Oxfordshire FHS for the parishes my relatives lived in, also County Records Offices may sell transcripts or even copies of the original registers - Suffolk Record Office for instance list the cost of microfiche of their parishes on their website. I know these aren't the counties you are inerested in but perhaps yours will have a similar service. |

Thanks Sam. It is the Parish records I am after. I've tried Google, etc. and wondered it if is possible to buy them as a CD os similar. Either a group of names or just the one Parish. People on this site seem to be able to give answers quickly and I was wondering where they got it from without leaving home. |

You can't get certs pre-1837, thy didn't exist. You need parish records. You can find these on www.familysearch.org or you can try google, put the area you are interested in and 'parish records'. Other than that you will either have to visi a records office or ask someone on here for a look up. Sam x |

Thanks for that. I've used that one and it is good, but I think some of my lot made sure they were never found. I really need to find enough correct info to get certs. |

I' have never laughed so much as I have the last couple of days reading this site. But I have a question. Obviously a lot of people have resources on hand rather than going to offices. I find it difficult to go out. Can anyone tell me whether you are buying CDs or is there a good online service, I don't mind if it has a cost. Most of mine is Somerset. Devon, Cornwall, Essex, Scotland, Rep. Ireland. Are you able to access Parish records online? This is for pre 1837 things. Thanks. |
