My Gt Grandparents are: Elizabeth Cranmer WRIGHT (abt 1857) (Wright is her maiden name) Thomas WRIGHT (abt 1851) Married 5/feb/1882 (have cert) Elizabeth father John WRIGHT Thomas father Michael LUNT (illegitimate) (wording on cert) Working from this and assuming that Thomas is Michaels illegitimate son I looked for a marriage for LUNT and found Michael LUNT married Ann WRIGHT Our Lady St Nicholas & St Ann Liverpool AMJ 1854. 1851 – Cherry Lane, Walton on the Hill, Liverpool Ellen WRIGHT 1804 Head UM Ann WRIGHT 1820 Sister UM Elizabeth WRIGHT 1849 Niece 1861 – 90 Whittle Street, Kirkdale, Liverpool Michael LUNT 1825 Head M Annie LUNT 1821 Wife M Elizabeth LUNT 1849 Daur UM Thomas LUNT 1850 Son UM George LUNT 1860 Son UM 1871 – 6 Hackthorpe St, Walton, Liverpool Ellen WRIGHT 1804 Head UM Thomas WRIGHT 1851 Nephew UM 1871 Michael LUNT 1825 Servant Widower If this is my Ann in 1851 she had one illegitimate child (Elizabeth), then along came Thomas. Ann then married Michael LUNT and they went on to have George. If this is all correct if I could find birth refs for Elizabeth & Thomas what name would I look under? Also why would Thomas use the surname Wright on marriage cert and not Lunt. What certs would be best to send for to help me on my way? As yet I cannot find death for Ann (assumed she must have died between 1861-1871). Can find no trace of George after 1861 and cannot find Michael after 1871.(Just found death 1878) Am I just speculating, is it all just coincidence or am I completely off the mark (and off my rocker!!!)

Hi Janet With the dates you have given, Annie may well have been pregnant with Thomas at the time of the 1851 census. Which mean that she probably gave birth in her sister's household. Michael Lunt MIGHT have been the father, but he could equally have been someone quite different. You would need to find a birth certificate in the name of Wright. And it probably won't give you fathe's name.

There are 2 Thomas WRIGHTs reg. Mar Qtr 1851 in Liverpool & 1 in W. Derby. Contact the local Reg. Office & they'll check for the one with mother Ann & no father. If it's neither of those, they'll probably search a year or two each side.
