I would imagine that if you were to start one now, you would call it the ???? Family Bible (Your husbands surname) You would then record his birth, baptism, marriage (including your name and surname), your children's births, baptism's and marriages (including the names of their spouses), and then carry on adding grandchildren when they come along. If you Google 'religious booksellers' you may find somewhere that sells them. Kath. x |

My husbands brother has theirs. I got quite a bit of info off it. I was all written in lovely ink..then my mother-in-law got hold of it and used a biro! not even neat writing. I am going to print out some things and it can be placed inside it. Marion |

Hi Kaye, I googled for religious bookstores, depending on the type you want, i like the leather ones, they started from £70 up to £130!! might be cheaper to make my own lol |

Usless info', did you know that in the old days newly marrieds who could not afford a new family bible would buy bibles from some poor soul who was having to sell theirs to make ends meet? Thats how my g.g.grandparents got theirs, the first names inside are from the other family, so sad |

My mum has her Family Bible which starts with her great-grandparents, who had the relatively unusual surnames of Smoothy and Chowns. The bible was a gift from Mrs Woodroffe to my gt gt grandfather at Christmas 1858, following his marriage. It took me a long time to track her down, but Mrs Woodroffe was an employer of my gt x 2 grandfather John Smoothy. My mum also has my dad's family bible, but this once belonged to someone else, it has her name and address in it but nothing else. At a later date someone in dad's family wrote down various family bmds, but they are now very faded and I spent ages looking for my gt x 2 grandfather's birth in the wrong year. Both Bibles are very very heavy - you would really need a lecturn to rest them on. nell |

I don't think you can actually make your 'own family bible' as such. You can make your own family history book, but a bible is a bible at the end of the day, so to have a bible of any kind, you would first have to buy a bible, then add your family details to it. Kath. x |

Hi Frances, i wanted to do it the right way lol but wasnt sure how to go about it as i want to add my parents and my grandparents so my grt grandchildren will have enough info hopefully so they wont have to search. Plus i would like it to be carried on way into the future, can you make that a clause in a will that it must be kept updated? |

Found this hope it helps in statrting a family bible. 1. Decide on the size of the Bible. If you plan to use it only at home or to record your family history, a larger size is easier to read and will have a larger section for family history information. 2. Look at the style of pages to record the family information. Choose a Bible with plenty of space to record family births, deaths, baptisms and marriages. 3. Choose a cover and binding that will hold up under the stress of age and handling. 4. Select a Bible that's printed on acid-free paper. 5. Decide whether you want a Bible that has artwork included with the text. 6. Pick a Bible with reference material if it will be used as a study Bible or reference Bible at home. |
