Can anyone help me please I have researched a family called the HEWER's and they appear in the court registers and newspapers in 1858, in Gloucestershire, town I think was Kempsford. Well, I was wondering if anyone knows of if they would have had sketches made of them in the court or for the newspapers? If you where could I thing them? Thank you Craig Rowberry

I imagine any sketches made for the newspapers would be in the newspapers. County records offices/library services usually have newspapers on microfilm. But I wouldn't bank on it. I don't know when court sketches first appeared, but I have a feeling it was well after 1858. My ancestor William Mealing was tried for murder, which was reported locally and in The Times and no sketch of him appeared. nell

Craig I've tried googling, but not found an answer. I did find out that court sketchmen/women aren't allowed to make sketches in court. They have to do the sketches outside the court, working from memory. nell
