Missing pages of the 1861 Census It may be because some pages and even whole enumeration books are missing from the originals in the National Archives. Some were lost or stolen over the decades, and for some areas - particularly in Monmouthshire, Pembrokeshire and Camarthenshire - the books were withheld, and only statistical information returned. Below is a list of the known books affected covering Newport, both those missing in their entirety (M) and those which are incomplete (I) in the National Archives. Hi Kath / Georgina Thanks for looking, I did find these but it was the Cornwall connection that threw me. Everything else through seems to add up DOB, Address, Name etc etc. I think I will have to chance a Marriage cert to be certain. Thanks again ... Paul

There is this entry on the 1871:- Elizabeth Bear abt 1827 Fowey, Cornwall, England Wife St Woollos Monmouthshire Emanuel Bear abt 1832 Barnstaple, Devon, England Head St Woollos Monmouthshire >>>Thomas Bear abt 1857 Fowey, Cornwall, England Son St Woollos Monmouthshire Looking at the image it seems to say Beer. I know the birthplace is wrong, but it seems like his wife changed her birthplace to an English one in 1901 so maybe this could have happened here too. You may have to get the marriage certificate so that you have Thomas's father's name to help with the search. Kath. x

Hi All Been at this for hours and another pair of eyes would be most welcome. Please see timeline below for Thomas Beer and Eliza Hatty. I have managed to track down Eliza pre 1881 despite her being mistranscriped athay and attay! But I can find no trace of Thomas on the 1871 or 1861 Census. I have tried all the obvious Beer/Bear/Beere/Bare combinations. Can anyone please find Thomas in either 1871 or 1861? Many Thanks ...
