BUT... My great aunt Nell's real name was Alice lol I didn't know until my gran died. She became Nel (one L) when she started courting her future husband Len. Then I realised (doh!) Nel is Len backwards!! maggie

If you put Nell in your search box you will see that this is regularly asked as a question. I have Nell, Nelly, Nellie in my tree - sometimes a pet name for Eleanor, or Ellen, or Helen and sometimes a name in its own right. I should know! nell

Nellies I have known have all been Ellen or Eleanor.
