Thanks Heather. My ret ag lab was 80 so maybe he'd just retired. On the census one all there really is there is name Jack ariel Married ,Age 30 Birthplace Zanzibar, Occupation Tindal. He was on a Royal Navy boat 'Ready'. I found him when I was looking for one of mine,Pat Bowler. He was on the same boat and up popped Jack Ariel. We know the Ariels did business in Zanzibar and some funny business as well. Maybe Jack's father's wife never knew about him??

I never knew ag labs retired - my poor old sod of a GGFx3 was still listed as one as living on a farm in a tied cottage when he was 80! BTW, what we normally do is copy and paste the census info for the whole household. Do you know how to do that? Click on the left side of the mouse, highlight all the page info and then right click and left click on copy. Then come on here to add reply and click on the right side of the mouse again and left on paste. Gawd, I didnt know it was that complicated, it comes so naturally doesnt it.

Jess, I'm still new to this site. Do you want me to give you the Household or just the info on that one person, or just his name? By the way, I'm still laughing at the ag lab site. I've got a ret. ag lab, so I guess he was an ordinary ag lab before.

Does anyone know anything about births in Zanzibar. Have person on the 1881 census born in Zanzibar. It's an English boat he is on and the rest of the family with that name were all from Somerset. They were traders, wine merchants and actually slave traders who had to come to Australia quickly before they were sent,I think. I have looked at the possiblity of his parents being in Zanzibar when he was born but that doesn't stack up. Thinking his father was there and his mother may be a local?? Any ideas?
