Aha - yes, I have seen a mistake similar to this in the past. The registrar had mistakenly put the same name down twice - informant and husband's name. So it looked as though the woman who died was married to the informant - whereas the informant was her son! Yes, these mistakes do happen occasionally.

The trouble with death certificates is that they are only as accurate as the memory of the person reporting the death. My own grandfather's age was incorrect on his and it was his son who registered the death.

I got my grandmother's death certificate yesterday from the GRO, She is shown as the wife of Alfred George Worboys. Trouble is, grandad was Albert Frederick ! The address of death is OK (in Shoreditch) and the informant is Albert George Worboys of Enfield, my uncle (the deceased's son). It looks as if there is a transcription error between the Registrar and the GRO. Would the local Registry Office be able to check the original entry?
