Banns are called where you live, not where you were born. The odds are that he had been working in WB, but moved to bride's parish very shortly before the wedding. That might explain why he was merely sojourner, rather than otp. |

No they are the original records, not from the IGI Carole |

When you say, ''The others are parish records'' do you mean they are submitted entries by LDS church members? If they are, they may just be guesses or related to the banns entries. I would go with the extracted record, but as always, the entry should be checked out from the original PR's. Merry |

I would go with Merry on this one - one of them will be the banns and the other one the marriage. Dea x |

Hi Merry Yes, the West Buckland entry is an extracted IGI record - the others are the parish records - so would that explain it? Carole update why would the banns be called in West Buckland when neither were from there? |

Is this from the IGI?? Some banns entries seem to have made there ways onto the IGI. I have rellies who seem to have married twice on the same day in the 1750's, but on investgation, one ''marriage'' was the groom's banns entry. Merry |

Hi I have two marriage records for the same couple – same first and last names/same date BUT different parishes. One is in Norton Fitzwarren and the other 10 miles away in West Buckland. On the Norton Fitwarren marriage the groom is down as a ‘sojourner’ presumably meaning from outside the parish. So far, so good. The bride was from Norton Fitzwarren – there is a corresponding birth entry and two census references to back this up The groom was not from West Buckland but from HillFarrence (no birth entry for this name in West Buckland but there is in Hillfarrance and the only census on which he appears backs this up. So why does West Buckland come into it? Their surnames are not common enough for it to be a different couple. Carole |
