I've got an 1861 census with a family in Moston Cheshire: George Ollier, aged 44, Ag Lab, birthplace not listed Ann Ollier, aged 43, born Winbury, Cheshire James Ollier, aged 15, born Moston, Cheshire Martha Ollier, aged 15, born Moston, Cheshire Enoch Ollier, aged 10, born Moston, Cheshire Mary Ann Ollier, aged 8, born Moston, Cheshire Elizabeth Ann Ollier, aged 5, born Moston, Cheshire Sarah Ellen Ollier, aged 1, born Moston, Cheshire I know the Mary Ann gets married in 1873 as Mary Ann Ollier and her father, George, is deceased - and possibly her by then married sister may have been a witness. Mary Ann's age on the marriage certificate matches that above. From then on, she gives her birth place as Sandbach, Cheshire. There is another Mary Ann Ollier from Sandbach on the census returns but the ages don't match . What I'm trying to do is find her on the 1871 census, but she doesn't appear as Mary (Ann(e)) Ollier. In fact I can't find any of them after this. I'm hoping it's a transcription error - so any suggestions on alternatives to names or anyother ideas?

Oliver seems most obvious but ancestry would surely have picked that up. How much are the ages out? Does everything else match?

Heather: My initial thought was Oliver, but I was kind of not wanting it to be Oliver as Mary Ann Ollier marries an Oliver and didn't want it to get any more confusing than necessary! Kathleen: Massive thanks! That appears to be the same family (minus my Mary Ann), but the ages of George and Ann really through me out - not to mention the less than accurate transcriptions of name places etc., etc.. Again, a big thanks for that. :)

Could this be Ann and George in 1881:- Ann Ollier abt 1817 Middlewich, Cheshire, England Wife Monks Coppenhall Cheshire Annie Ollier abt 1868 Middlewich, Cheshire, England Granddaughter Monks Coppenhall Cheshire George Ollier abt 1811 Middlewich, Cheshire, England Head Monks Coppenhall Cheshire Address 53 Lockett Street Middlewich and Over are quite close to each other and birth years often vary quite a bit on different census returns. Hi Obviously I thought of OLIVER first too but don't forget OL is sometimes mistranscribed as CL. Louise

Kathleen: I'd already looked at these but the family I've been looking for which has George Ollier as the father was listed as deceased on his daughter's marriage certificate in 1873. Thanks, it is appreciated :)

Collier may be a good bet

Louise: I can imagine Cliver for Oliver but Cllier for Ollier? That's a reason as any for not farming out census transcriptions to foreign countries!

If Mary married in 1873 she was probably under the age of 21, She may have said her father was deceased if she married without parental consent, whether or not he was. On the other hand, there is this death on Ancestry that could be your George:- Name: George Ollier Birth Date: abt 1812 Year of Registration: 1872 Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar Age at death: 60 District: Congleton County: Cheshire, Staffordshire Volume: 8a Page: 215 This district covers Moston.
