My ancestor William Peck Bonnett died in early 1840 at Spalding Lincolnshire. Jane, his widow, is listed in the following census at what lookes like Chapel Street. I descend from his previous wife Sarah, and I think at the time of his marriage they lived in London. That's about all I have until his death certificate arrives next month. Meantime, I wonder if any of you clever people out there can add anything to my knowledge of William. It's a distinctive name, so that helps, doesn't it?

I am trying for you but have only found his death so far. Do you know Jane's maiden name? Also, is Peck a first name or a surname? Unfortunately, the fact that it's an unusual name doesn't always help - it's more likely to give you a headache in fact as it's more than likely spelt wrong because it's unusual!! I will keep trying for you.

Have you seen the PR entry for his second marriage?? Here's the IGI version: WILLIAM PECK BONNETT Marriages: Spouse: JANE STEVENSON Marriage: 22 NOV 1807 Christ Church Greyfriars Newgate, London, London, England Messages: Extracted marriage record for locality listed in the record. In my own family the only reasons for travelling to London to marry was either that the person's previous spouse was still alive, or the new spouse crossed the boundaries of ''Degrees of Consanguinity'' (ie, they were too closely related to thie potential new spouse). The first sign of something dodgy going on (in my cases) has been the lies told at the venue of the second wedding.....Yes, we both live here......and .....Yes, we are bachelor and spinster..........!! So, I thought it might be worth viewing the original entry for this second marriage. Merry

Do have a google with both names Paul as I did and there are some interesting bits. He wasnt a licensed victualler by any chance? Just noticed licensees called Peck and Bonnett in the area (different pubs that is).

I don't know how the name Peck fits in, but I'd be interested to know about Pecks and Bonnetts in Spalding. I did notice that there was a surveyor called Bonnett in Spalding 200 years previously, so maybe that's where his roots were. I would guess that the move from London to Spalding took place after his children grew up as my ancestor, his daughter Sarah, remained in London to marry Thomas Knight. Thanks, everybody, every little bit helps!
