Same refewrence does not mean a single certificate. It is just that the two are on the same page of the register. Just checked my grandfathers birth in free bmd and there are ten names on the page with the same reference as his.

When you register the birth of twins or more (Lucky old you!) The registrar records the time of each birth on the birth certificates. I think it dates back to old inhereritence laws, when the oldest son inherited the land etc.

If one was still born then she would not be showing on the birth index.......so......if they are the right babies, maybe she lived longer then was originally estimated and you might find her death in the next Q or even later? My cousin had ''stillborn'' twins in his family who actually lived for over a month.... Merry

I didnt explain myself too well - two girls born in right district, same quarter, birth certificate reference for both is exactly the same. I didnt know you could have 2 people on one certificate, and as I only found one death I wondered if maybe one was stillborn but name was noted on birth certificate? Probably a very daft thought!

How can two babies be on the same birth certificate? Do you mean the same birth reference in the index?

Sue, you said that you found two girls born in an appropriate time? but only one death, a stillbirth woud not have a birth cert as they never lived, so would not have a death cert, because you have to be born alive, to have died? if that makes any sense, hope this helps Roy

Hi Sue It could be a matter of timing ie you said it was a rumour, that could be a few weeks apart which means that it may have gone over into a different quarter or even year. Sorry I couldn't have been more help. Half PInt

Well, I think it might be a question about twin births! Rumour has it that my grandfather had twin siblings who died at birth. I have found two girls born in an appropriate time between the other children, but they both are on the same birth certificate. I looked for deaths and found one of them, but not the other. Could one have been stillborn?
