My grandfather often spoke about his favourite younger sister, Dora, who died when she was 11. I have tried to find her birth/death details and have hit a brick wall. The family name was Webb, parents Alexander and Leah (nee Lawton) who lived in Smethwick. My grandfather was born in 1908, the oldest of 8, and Dora was the one of the youngest. My grandmother can remember that when she was just married to my grandfather, Dora was about 9 or 10 and they got married in 1930. This would suggest that Dora was born around 1920 and died about 1931. I know that Dora could be short for something else but I can't find her at all. Can anybody help please?

Dora could be short for Dorothy, Doreen or Doris Jeanette

People's memories about how old they are can be faulty. My grandmother always said she was 7 when her mother died. She was in fact 11 and her mother died just a few days after her 11th birthday. Dora could be a pet name, or a middle name. I think you will have to go through the birth indexes looking for the right surname and area till you find a likely suspect. nell

Rosemary, If she was born in 1920 she cant have died in 1931 aged 29. This looks like her - Dora A Webb d Mar Q 1934 aged 13 Birmingham 6d 723. Elaine x.
