Hi, well think of Watermen in those days as taxi drivers/people carriers and Lightermen as juggernaut drivers when the Thames was more crowded than the M25. The Watermen were licensed to carry people and small goods up and down the Thames and across it. It was a very skilled and responsible job and usually had an 8 year apprenticeship. Many watermen/lightermen were pressed into Naval service during conflicts because they had skills valued by the Navy. To find out more, go to the Dockland Ancestors site.

Hi Chris, its the peeps on Dockland Ancestors - parishregisters*com - who are arranging it - http://www*parishregister*com/parish_shop/product_detail.asp?CatID=57&ParentCatID=&SearchCat=&Search=&Page=2&RecsPerPage=10&ID=2500 I guess just email James Legon on the site there or go to the link above where you can click and add it to a purchase basket. Apparently there will be a fair bit of walking involved.
