I have this census return. Any one any ideas? There seems to be 2 daughters both called Annie, But..... One of them has been added on the bottom of the family, below the Mother, and after all the other children, would'nt the mother have come last? Thanks. Hi Tom Had a look at the census and this is what I came up with 1. Maybe Annie is a traditional family name so both called Annie officially, but the second Annie may have been known by her middle name beginning with E. 2. Could the married daughter have actually been a daughter in law (hence the surname Cooling) and the second Annie be her daughter. 3. The second Annie may have been a visiting niece or something and the census enumerator put her down as a daughter by mistake. I think the only way you would know for sure is to get the birth certificate. Dianne xx

It's RG11, not RG12. Do you think Annie E. could be granddaughter rather than daughter? Could she be the daughter of Rosetta, who is described as married, although her name is still Cooling and described as daughter rather than daughter-in-law. Kath. x

Just had another look at the 81 census, but this time asking for the name Annie Cooling instead of Emma. There is also another Annie Cooling the same age as the elder Annie in the same village, so it may well be a family name. Food for thought, Could Granny Cooling (Emma's mother in law) be called Annie, and Granny Turner (Emma's mother) Elizabeth. If granny Cooling was called Annie, then little Annie E could possibly be Annie Elizabeth after the two Grandmas, but known as Elizabeth? Dianne xx
