Any advice gratefully accepted. I have tried every avenue I can think of. I have hit a major brick wall with my research. I have my GT GT Grandfathers marriage certificate and birth certificate. Bernard BOYLEN was born Sept 1851 in Durham UK . Father John mother Catherine KELLY. I have found the family in Durham UK 1851census and later. John born c 1821. Catherine b c 1826. Margeret shown as age 5 c 1846 and Mary shown as 2months old c 1851. All born Ireland. I cannot find any clues as to where in ireland this family originate from. North or South or their religious leanings. Anyone got any ideas please??? As to how I can find the marriage and/or the birth of the girls. Or even where to look for the shipping record for arrival in UK early 1851. Any ideas gratefully received. Thankyou in advance. |

At that time there was no division in the country. There are some Irish threads with tips - I'll find them for you. :-) |

Don't ask me why but having searched the IGI numerous times .... suddenly tonight I have found a likely entry for the marriage of John BOYLEN to Catherine KELLY but the only detail attached to the entry is abt 1845 <Upper Cork ST,,,Ireland> Tried various maps on line, tried Google Lycos etc. but cannot pin down this, I assume Street, to a town or village any ideas please PLEASE PLEASE????? |

I think I've got it!!!!!! courtesy of Rootsweb boards. Michealstown Cork, now fingers crossed i've got somewhere to start in Ireland. Jumping up and down with excitement it's only taken three years. |

Maid Re your having searched the IGI with no previous success... Did you know that apparently the records have a six week rotation? I have often 'lost' entries only for them to reappear at a later date. I used to think it was a combination of old age and wishful thinking until someone explained it :) Chris |

No I didn't know that. I just thought tonight that I had struck lucky and they had added some new data. |

They are good aren't they Joy. I have had some excellent response from them, but not always. I have posted some questions on other boards with absolutely no response. I have found that if you look for an active board ie postings dated on or about the day yoy make a post, closest too the subject you are asking about, you get a better response. Some boards do not seem to get visited as often as others. Worth bearing in mind. |

Just one of the good things about posting on them is that someone may see it or remember it years later - as happened to me, when someone saw my great-great-uncle's name in the LDS civil registration and remembered my posting!!! |
