My G.G.Grandfather Robert Sullivan was a Tailor by trade. I have found him in the 1841 London Street Directory. After his name it has &c. does this mean that he was a registered Tailor and if so where can I find more information. Thanks Malcolm

&c just means 'etcetera' so I would take that to mean that his business included something else as well as being a tailor. Perhaps also a draper or haberdasher? Kate.

Oh sorry, after his NAME. In that case, it will mean that he was in business with a partner or partners but they didn't put all their names down in the directory.
