Thanks Brian. The trouble us that 1881 doesn't seem to have a space to type in occupation. I have looked at so many images this afternoon that I'm going cross-eyed. I think I need to take a break. Chrissie |

You are frightening everyone by saying Expert!!!! LOL I don't want to say I am one either, but maybe I'm thicker-skinned than others!! I looked for Amy in 1881 because her age is likely to be the most accurate (being the youngest) No joy..... Next tried looking for the Richards family in 1861 to check their places of birth...... 1861 Betsy Houldsworth abt 1847 Bolton, Lancashire, England Boarder St Mary Nottinghamshire Fredk Houldsworth abt 1816 Bolton, Lancashire, England Boarder St Mary Nottinghamshire Eliza Richards abt 1821 Nottinghamshire, England Wife St Mary Nottinghamshire Eliza Richards abt 1848 Nottinghamshire, England Daughter St Mary Nottinghamshire John Richards abt 1818 Nottinghamshire, England Head St Mary Nottinghamshire Lois Richards abt 1855 Nottinghamshire, England Daughter St Mary Nottinghamshire Mary Ann Richards abt 1843 Nottinghamshire, England Daughter St Mary Nottinghamshire No help there!! Tried John Smith Iron Tuner on the 1881 census, as you can enter occupation on Ancestry. Nothing...... More in a minute.......(and NO I haven't secretly found them yet!) Merry |

I'm no expert!! but have found the same problem over the last few years with my lot. I did find however that if you look at the image on the census and have a look at the occupations of each member of the family it might not have changed in the next census check. Good luck Brian |

I found this family by accident on 1871 and would like to find the Smith's from this family, who probably now don't live with the Richards in-laws on 1881. Because the name is such a common one, and all the Christian names are common too, I am getting loads come up when I search. What would an expert searcher do for the best please? Eliza Richards abt 1821 Nottinghamshire, England Wife St Mary Nottinghamshire John Richards abt 1818 Nottinghamshire, England Head St Mary Nottinghamshire Louis Richards abt 1856 Nottinghamshire, England Daughter St Mary Nottinghamshire Ann Smith abt 1871 Nottinghamshire, England Daughter St Mary Nottinghamshire Eliza Smith abt 1849 Nottinghamshire, England Daughter St Mary Nottinghamshire Harry Smith abt 1869 Nottinghamshire, England Son St Mary Nottinghamshire John Smith abt 1847 Nottinghamshire, England Son-in-law St Mary Nottinghamshire Thomas Smith abt 1866 Nottinghamshire, England Son St Mary Nottinghamshire Thanks Chrissie |
