I agree with Heather ... one of my ancestors is a different age on all the info I have - 4 census returns and a marriage & death certificates -they all vary up to 5 years from his birth certificate. It was very common place to round ages up or down and even get the ages of children mixed up on occasion!

If everything else adds up, a few years out would not be a problem. I think all of us must have census records which change from one to another. Often women only age 5 years in the ten years space!

My x4 great grandfather Edwin Kershaw married twice, his second wife he married in 1852. But his first wife i'm having trouble with. The problem is on the 1861 census he has a son called John Henry living with him, so I went to the 1851 census and found John but he's living with Edward Kershaw and Mary. My problem is the 1861 has has him born in 1823, and the 1851 has him born in 1824, but according to his marriage certifcate he was born 1821. But his son John living with him in 1851 & 1861 (i'm assuming its him) has a daughter called Annie, and on my x2 Grandfather's marriage certificate there is an Annie Kershaw. With all the dates been so close together i'm just wondering if I do have the right people, or maybe not? Any suggestions?
