Most Scottish research is done via Scotlands People, but it is a pay/subscription site. On the plus side a lot more info is available online for Scottish events than English sites. It also depends on what era you are looking at,as Scottish registrations do not follow the 1837 'English' rule.Civil registration runs from diffreent dates over the border. Civil registration started in 1855 for Scotland. Before that, you can search the IGI and will probably have success. After that, and you may or may not, depending on if they have been subimitted or not. As has been advised, Scotlands People is the best site for Scottish records. You can get 30 credits for £6, and for that you can view up to 5 BMD certificates. They hold full information about the event, and Scottish marriages hold much more than English ones.

Andy, if you go into the origins site they have the full IGI listings for Scottish BD&M viewable for free. The same listings can be found on the familysearch site, but only partial listings, as they rotate them. However, I'm not sure how complete the origins records are. They may still be adding parish records as they are transcribed. www.originsnetwork(.)com
