Thanks for these replies, very helpful as ever! I'm inclined to think Wigan and Leigh is the right one so we shall soon see, Thanks again Sarah :) |

I presume that his birth via the census is after 1837 and not before. Have you found any matching names for a birth? Then try to discount any that seem well out geographically? Glen |

Not sure, but this is from the online archives records for 1861: RG Records of the General Register Office, Government Social Survey Department, and Office of Population Censuses and Surveys RG 9 General Register Office: 1861 Census Returns Subseries within RG 9 LANCASHIRE Subsubseries within RG 9 Registration District 467. LEIGH RG 9/2799 This was for GOLBORNE Lancs. So would LEIGH make sense as a registration district contact point perhaps? |

Hello Anyone who can give me a helping hand identifying which regsitratio district I shouldbe looking for for this relative- Great-great-great g'dad born in Golborn (also Goalboam, Golborne - think this is the most modern spelling). I can't seem to figure out which reg.district this would come under, say for his certficates. 1851 census just says Golborne (lancashire) for the parish, nothing else (District 2a, if that's any help) 1861 says born Golbourn Lancashire, where the township for the census is CHURTON BY ALDFORD. There's a few Golborne's and I'm going round in circles trying to figure out which district his birth will be registered at. Any help hugely appreciated, Sarah |
