or a lock keeper - St Pancras is very near Camden lock. Cant you get her birth cert to see if its clearer. But as Fred was working for the railway, I also think its a good chance it could be something to do with that too. Just seen its not that long back. Give us his name and likely area and we could see if he appears on a census with more detail.

Found on http://www.amlwchdata*co*uk/occupations.htm KEEPER - controlled the quantities of ore and fuel, regulated the blast and tapped the molten metal from the furnace, so maybe there was a foundry there? T x

Hi all There isn't any way of getting Mary's birth cert as I know nothing of her and there are so many with father Edward on 1881 census. I found an explaination of someone who looks after a building or land. I don't know if Mary went to London on her own or with family. I don't know where to start. Why is it just Keeper on the cert Fred and his father are listed as Railway Porter and Railway Platelayer so that's understandable. she had nothing just a line for her occupation. I have tried 1901 census just putting Keeper in,nothing Game Keeper came up with a few traced only 1 back to 1881 with a mary but shes too old. Michelle

In 1871 one of my g grandfathers was a Horsekeeper for the railway, and it looks like your family had strong railway connections. Census said 'Horse Keeper - Railway'
