workhouse birth records

anyone know if workhouse records have the same 100yr rule as census records. I have a birth in 1928 in Keighley workhouse and mother was unmarried. All i know is the name of the mother at the time of the birth. The baby was raised in an orphanage and there has been no contact ever. Is this really a dead end?

See this page: http://users.ox.ac.uk/~peter/workhouse/Keighley/Keighley.shtml it says the records are at Keighley library: Records Keighley Reference Library, North Street, Keighley, BD2 1 3SX. Holdings include: Guardians' minutes (1837-1930), Letter books (1837-1910); Ledgers (1884-1923); etc. I would try ringing them and asking if they can help..... Merry

Christine, I had exactly the same problem a couple of years ago. I urge you to contact the Local History Library for that area. Thats what I did and thay were fantastic. All I had was my mothers birth certificate, and where she was born. From that I found records of my grandmother in the workhouse and unbelievably ( after going through a lot of red tape!) the name of my grandfather even though he was not listed on my mothers birth certificate.
