I have my gr.gr.gr grandparents marriage certificate - Hannah Allcock and Isaac Tucker - from the local registry office of where they were living and I have found 3 possible death dates for Hannah who apparently died very young. They were 1841,1844 and 1845. Unfortunately the register office haven't any trace of the certficates and I don't know what to do next. I live reasonably near where they were living - is there anything I can do?

what area did they live in? you can look on ancestry BMD and order certificate through GRO

They lived in the Shardlow area and all possible deaths were in that area, but as I don't know which of the 3 years it was, I don't know which one to order and I don't think I can afford 3. I got the 3 possible dates from Ancestry BMD

Jennifer - still a little expensive but I think you can get them reference checked against her maiden name. So not all 3 will appear and they charge £3 if they do this and its not the right person so all in all it will cost you £13 = £7 for the one you want, £3 each for the reference checking the wrong ones.

You will have to pay £21 upfront but they will refund the £8 once they find they are not the ones you want!! xx

Jennifer If you google the name of the place and 'burials' you may find that the records have been filmed and copies are held in a local library. Try googling for local family history societies too as they may have transcribed the records. Good luck Heather

Sorry to but in, but you can't get them ref checked against her maiden name because women's maiden names don't appear on death certs until 1969. Only hope is the hubby's name showing up on the occupation column (''wife of Isaac Tucker, labourer'' (or whatever)) plus her age - hopefully two certs will be for people completely the wrong age. Odd that the local reg office say they have no record of ANY of these deaths.......what was their excuse?? Not another fire, surely???? Merry

Hi Merry They didn't give a reason why they couldn't find them. They said they'd checked all the records from 1841-1846 and hadn't found her. Unfortunately I don't know her date of birth. When she married it said she was under age. I hoped that if the GRO looked at all three death dates, that her husbands name Isaac Tucker would appear as the person who'd registered her death and thereby give me the right one. By the way I checked with the local library where she lived but they don't have a family history section and she didn't know where there would be one
