Jessie aka Maddies mate Report 6 Apr 2006 21:19

I have my great great great grandfather born in 1812 in Wolverhampton, and have traced forwards from this to my Nan. Have decided to go back further and have got the following from IGI JOHN PINSON Male Christening: 26 DEC 1813 Saint Peter Or Collegiate, Wolverhampton, Stafford, England Parents: Father: WILLIAM PINSON Mother: MARY Do you all think it could be the baptism of my 3xgreat grandad and his parents and how can I make sure before adding to my tree. Joanne

Brickwall Yes it could (be your relative) and no (you can't be sure) Once you get to the parish registers stage you really DO need to look at the original registers. I've found that with most branches of my family, once you find them in a small village surrounded by cousins who are born at the same time and named after the same grandparents, and where every man is called John/William/Thomas and every woman is Susan/Mary/Ann its very difficult to be certain about your lot. You could add this chap with a note to the effect that you haven't got conclusive proof yet. I'm not sure how big Wolverhampton was in the early 1800s and whether they would have had more than one church. nell

Hi Joanne Without getting a look at some original records (Parish etc), I'm not sure you can be 100% confident. Try finding out a bit more about William and Mary. This might lead you to some other clues, and help build the case that yes this is your Gt x2 Grandfather. I had a quick look on LDS and found this; WILLIAM PINSON MARY PARR Marriage: 09 DEC 1803 Saint Peter Or Collegiate, Wolverhampton, Stafford, England HTH ... Paul

Could be right about same names in the same area - looking at Wloverhampton the Pinson's seem to be all over here. Back to the drawing board and another name(s) to add to the growing list that need checking on parish registers - god only knows when I will get the time to go to all the diffrent places Thanks for the advice

I've also found a baptism of a JOSEPH PINSON, in 1821, Wolverhampton. He also has parents, William & Mary. It's certainly not definite, but Joseph could be John's younger brother. Parish records are calling you I think! Best of luck Helen x
