What is the accepted format for birthdate of individual when making changes to Tree? I have tried to update some individuals, i don't have a dd/mm/ but I do have an approximate year. The system won't allow you not to put a birth day or month so I have been using 01/01/ and the year! However I don't want to confuse anyone viewing my tree into thinking that I have umpteen relatives all born on the first of January!! Sue |

As far as i know you dont have to enter dob just the year of birth but you should put a tick in the box marked (Circa) hope this helps Roy |

Sue I just leave the DOB date blank until I know what it is. GR also give you a Year Of Birth which is what I initially fill in. HTH ... Paul |

Maybe it's me - it seems to happen when I try to put info in the 'extra details' section, it won't allow me to 'save details to tree' without putting in a full dd/mm/yyyy....pants on fire!!!! |

Sue, I do the same when I only know the approx. year. Then if I do happen to find the birth registration in a certain qtr, I change it to the first day of the last part of that registration qtr. ie:01/03/1851, 01/06/1851 and so on. I then make a note in the extra details screen of the birth registration details, so anyone reading it is aware that I don't have the exact date. I work for a large Government Department and we still use the 01/01/01 format for clients who omit their birth date details (until such time as they give us the correct date of course). Hope this helps Lyn, Sydney, Oz |
