It is up to you which lines you research. I personally try and find people on all sides, but some people are only interested in the male line, or maybe have a special reason for researching just one branch. It is your tree so you can do what you like!!! |

Audrey, What lines you follow are up to you. I started by putting in my parents, then their parents (my 4 grandparents), then their parents (my 8 great-grandparents), and so on and so forth, filling in gaps and researching as I went along. Everybody does it differently however. It really is up to you. Start with a line you know a bit about, and then fill the others in when you feel more confident. Liz |

Audrey, you don't need to keep starting new threads, just click on 'Add reply' to continue adding messages to the original thread. When you put somebody on your tree, you can add their parents, children and siblings (brothers and sisters). So if you start with yourself, you then click on 'Add parents' to add your own parents, and insert their details. If you want to add your own children or siblings, click on the square in the top half of the screen with your name in it, then click on Add Child or Add Sibling, and insert their details in the bottom half of the screen. If you want to add your dad's sister, for example, click on the square with your dad's name in it, and then click on Add Sibling. Then carry on like that. |

Audrey It's YOUR tree so up to you how you do it and which branches you include. I've done EVERYBODY, because sooner or later you get stuck on one branch so you have something else to work on. Some of my branches go back to 1750s, others I'm stuck at around 1850. Besides, you never know which relative is most interesting. If I'd only followed the male line I would have missed out on some fascinating documents and family scandals! nell |
