do one name at a time, go back as far as you can with each first, or you'll get in a pickle and forget who is who what facts have you got so far? |

Hi,Thanks to the ppl who replied, if you can have a look at my family tree, you can see where i am upto, not very far though. And i want to see the census too, but you got to pay, seperately for that. Just need some pointers i think, but i dont have that much info. |

Hi Audrey, start with what you know-parents birth dates, wedding dates etc, then check them on the GRO indexes just to make sure and to give you some practice. Then go on to what you think you know/what you've been told and check the facts You can look at the census for the area you live in free on microfilm at your local archives-probably in the main library for your area. The local record office might have it on CD and surrounding areas too, free to look at. Your local family history society or even your central library might subscribe to ancestry so you could look at it for free. try this website for a family history society, they can tell you what other free resources are available near you (like looking up weddings for free on Church registers) www(.)ffhs(.)org(.)uk remove brackets |

You can go to the homepage of this website and scroll down, there's a section called 'Getting Started' which you will probably find helpful. nell |

Ancestry has a free month's trial with this weeks radio times. If you can get back before 1900 you should be able to track your relatives through the census's to 1851. |
