Divorce in the 1930's/1940's...

My partners great-grandmother married a JOHN ALFRED DARBY in 1915 and re-married an ALEXANDER STORRIE in 1947. On her second marriage certificate she states she was 'formerly the wife of John Alfred Darby from whom she obtained a divorce'... How likely was it that she did obtain this divorce given how expensive they were in those days? To add to the confusion, on her daughter's marriage certificate (from 1936) she says John Darby is deceased! Any ideas anyone? |
