I have George Cook on Census born 1816 in Barnetby le Wold, Lincs. On IGI there are two George Cooks christened there (1817 & 1818). How can I work out which one (if any) is mine? Any help very much appreciated! |

If you are working present day backwards then you will know some of the rellies of your Cook family member, trace through the census to get the names of parents (if they show on the census with him anywhere) and then you could try for the parish records, some bishops transcripts and archbishops transcripts will show you the parents names and it allows you to follow both names via the parentage and siblings, but you may not get the info online, many Norfolk parish records are online, but the Lincolnshire records are a bit thin on the ground via the internet. If a marriage accured after 1837 then the parents names will appear on the certs. From 1810 to around 1825 births you can usually apply the census and marriage route to establish the next generation back. It is only when you get pre 1800 that you fully rely on parish records. Thanks everyone. It's my husband's side of the family, and because I started out 'just having a look online' to see what I could find, I sort of forgot that George Cook's marrige cert would have the answer...and give me father of Hannah Harrison! Feeling a bit foolish now, as I've got all the certs for my own side of the family! Thanks so much for your kind responses...and your patience! Better get on and order that cert now......... !! |
