I think its about time i bought proper storage for my certs and other bits and pieces, so does anyone have any recommendations for the best box or folder to buy. Many thanks

For certificates I have a large 4 ring binder, numbered file dividers and punched polypockets. Each surname has a number in the index and the certificates are each in a polypocket behind that numbered divider in chronological order. Marriage certs go with the husband's surname. The death cert for a married woman goes in under her maiden name, so it is with her birth cert. Lx

Depends how you want to store things. You can get deluxe certificate binders etc., but I just store mine in acid-free A4 polypockets bought in a job lot at WH Smith, in with my family tree notes etc in ring binders. nell

Hi ive been wondering myself how to store my certificates and census i have collected, whats the difference between a normal plastic pocket insert and an acid free one? many thanks kaz

I'm so sad I have three ring binders (Red, green and black) for my certificates and the acid free poly pockets from Smith's. I have an A4 storage drawer thing? with 6 drawers for census printouts. (Courtesy of our local council who were chucking it in a skip) and box files for miscelaneous (sp) bits and pieces(labelled misc. 'cos its a word I can't spell!)

I keep all my certs in a 'master' ring binder file. But first I photocopy the certificate and place this in a polypocket in the individual 'family' file. This means that if one certificate goes missing then there is a backup. But the main reason is that it is more convenient to look at the photocopies in the working family file than to keep referring to a separate file. Also I photocopy a marriage certificate twice so that one copy goes in the husband 's family file and the other into the maiden family file - if that makes sense. Cross indexed if you like. Rita
