Hi Mandie, Thanks for this. I'm new at this and not sure where to get info. I can't really get out much so am relying on whatever is online.. I have a Huband family in the 1881 census. William was born 1824 Stonehouse Devon, and rest of family in Poplar Middlesex. Trying to find if William(head) is brother to James Huband born abt 1833 in Stonehouse, devon, son of William and Agnes. Even if you could tell me best place to start. I'd like to get info on William and Agnes as well. They were born abt 1791 and 1795 in Ugborough, Devon. Is that enough info to buy certificates. I'm in Australia so phone calls to Gov. agancies are a bit costly. Thanks Libby. |

Libby, All the people you mention were born before 1837 (when registration began) so you won't be able to get birth certificates. If you have an LDS Family History Centre near you, you may be able to order the parish records for the places in Devon where they were born, for just a couple of pounds, and you should be able to find their baptism records. Hi Joanna I'm sure Ancestory.co.uk is offering freebmd look ups or there's 1837online but you have to bury credits. You also have Freebmd, Lancashirebmd, Cheshirebmd etc etc..... If you type 'freebmd' in your search engine it should give you a wide range of choices just to have look at. Any probs let me know and I'll have a look for you. cheers good luck mandie |

Hi there Libby, I've sent it you by email as well. sorry for not getting back soon, little one still poorly.... I had a quick look about through the censusfor 1861 and 1851. On the 1861 census this is what I found: Bromley, St. leonard, Middlesex Mary A Huband wife Mary A Huband Daugher William Huband Head (This is the william you gave me born 1824) William A Huband Son Looking through the 1851 census I found Agness Huband Head of household with one son living with her born 1833 but its down as John Huband not James. Does it sound like i'm on the right tracks parden the pun speak soon mandie |

Hi Mandie I'm having difficulty finding sites which give the amount of detail, others seem to be able to find on my behalf. For example, I said I was looking for a birth cert, I gave the approx year and the parents surnames. A member replied with the year and quarter, parents surnames, childs firstname, middle initial and surname plus the GRO ref. !!! What site gives that kind of info? Thanks so much for your help (sorry am new to family tree research) Joanna |
