Hi all, There was a thread the other day, think it was Lizzy by the sea, she was talking about ordering lists of marridges or births from them. Would these be I.G.I recods or the parish records that you look at on film,I know igi are parish records but they arn't complete are they? Hope you can understand what iam talking about, haveing problems myself. Gill

IGI has baptisms either extracted from Parish Registers or entered by LDS members (who hopefully have also sourced them from the registers). The former are slightly more reliable. Many FH Societies sell transcribed parish records of Baptisms, Mariiages and/or Burials taken from parish registers. IGI does not contain a full set of transcriptions. The FHS ones may, but each FHS would be able to tell you what they have. If you need Parish Register info, you could also contact the library holding the registers for the parish you want (consult GENUKI). They may have a lookup service, or you could visit yourself. Another option is the OPC (Online Parish Clerk). These volunteers do a fab job transcribing and doing lookups. They have jobs and families like the rest of us, so be patient and specific if you contact them. To find the OPC, try GENUKI or just Google for OPC parishname. Lx

Hi Gill, Yes, it was me! As I said before, I only know about Devon FHS. Their website shows all the parishes that they have details for. What they will then do is quote you for a particular surname. To me, they looked more complete than the IGI but I couldn't swear to it. I just needed to see the names in isolation. The whole process can take a couple of weeks by the time they've quoted, you've paid and they've sent. Quicker than certificates at the moment!! If you just want photocopies of the parish record taken from the microfiche, contact the library or wherever holds them and they will send these for about 60p each (Devon again, sorry!) I took the details from the LDS site, emailed the dates and references through and they got back to me telling me what they actually had. Not always the same as on the site I might add! Long answer, but hope it helps. Lizzie

Dorset FHS is busy transcribing records and has them available on the internet. Bucks FHS sells books by parish.... it varies! Lx
