As for the papers, The Times often lists divorce cases to be heard, but just says - for example - Bloggs v Bloggs, so it would be quite hard to tell if yours is mentioned as Davis is a relatively common name. nell

Before the 1920s it was prohibitively expensive to divorce, but if you order the marriage cert it should state whether the lady was divorced or single/widowed which would give you an idea of whether or not she was divorced/committing bigamy. The Archives site just tells you about what is available - you have to go to Kew (or wherever else is specified) to look at the documents, and they only have divorces up to about 1858 I think. After that you need the First Registry address in Holborn. nell

I have looked on the divorce thread and for the life of me I cannot work out how to use the Archives site (for anything!!) I have a marriage of a Jessie Cathnor McKay and William Davis in St Georges Hanover Square in 1906. Jessie had left William and their 3 children in approx 1912. By 1915 she is married to George Snook in Wandsworth. William also later remarried but haven't found that one as yet. Could anybody tell me if they WERE divorced if it would have been in the papers? Many thanks in advance
