The best source of details of the pre 1837 records is via the GENUKI website. http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/index.html Certainly there are links to transcriptions of some Devon PR's. The Devon FHS have produced several CDs of PR transcriptions. The area around Plymouth is the subject of one CD, but I think they have others too. From experience I know that Devon is not well served by the IGI. Nevertheless it still remains a useful source of parish records. http://www.familysearch.org You should also consider using the website familyhistoryonline. It costs but can be useful (but not for Devon!!!) http://www.familyhistoryonline.net/ If you fail to find useful links to parishes of interest via the GENUKI site it may be fruitful to post names and parishes here. Good luck Pete |

Have you checked the IGI? It's on www.familysearch.org Not much good for Essex, as they refused LDS access to their records Reg |

It just depends where you need. Some registers are transcribed and some aren't. If you go to rootschat, free to join and click on the counties you want it should give you a list of what is available. Other than that the local family history society will often do lookups but may charge. There is also an online parish clerk project for some counties where someone adopts a parish and fens queries. Genuki u.k. has also got lists of what is available for each parish. |

I'm fairly new at this and wondering where you can search Parish registers, etc. Is it possible to get them on a website? I'm happy to pay a subscription, but can't get to records offices, etc. so have to do it all from home. I'm in Australia and researching mainly Devon, Essex, Cornwall before 1830s. Also Ireland. Thanks. |
