Can anyone tell me when the legal ages of marriage went up to 16 with parental consent/ 18 without? Thank you :) |

Rebecca - I think it is going to depend on what other information you have. But if all else fails, presumably you know the name of one of their children (your grandparent), so you can get that child's birth certificate and it will give you his / her parents' full names; then you can work back from there. Kate. |

Hi, He was definately John. They had two sons, one Malcolm born Barnsley and another, known as Jack but probably was John. Malcolm was born in 1940 but i can't find his brother either. I'm pretty sure they all came from Barnsley, maybe I should try 1837 online then, Thanks again, Lisa |

The only marriage around that time I can find for a Lilian Richmond to a Davis is this one:- Lilian M. Richmond, spouse Davis Sept. qtr. 1940, Shoreditch, 1c, 104 However after cross checking with the Davis marriages, the spouse is called Charles W. Davis. Is this the right area? Could John have been a name he was known by, but not necessarily his real name? Kath. x |

Lisa, you can say what you like when you register a birth!! Though my idea of Lilian having had a previous marriage now looks unlikely! Merry |

They could have got married abroad. Have you searched the overseas marriages? Though it is also possible that they got married abroad and it is only in the records of whatever country they got married in, and not in the British overseas records. Did they definitely both come from England or Wales? Kate. |

I have just had a look at the ancestry beta marriages and there are several pages missing for these names around the 1937 to 1940 dates, it may be that you would need to search 1837 online. Roy |

Are you certain it was the bride's first marriage.....?? If not you might be looking under the wrong name for her! Otherwise, maybe they were not legally married or perhaps they married donkey's years later. The worst option.....You missed it right at the beginning of your search!! Merry |

Where have you got their names from? It's possible they didn't marry at all, or that they didn't marry where you expected them to. nell |

Hi I'm looking for a marriage between Lilian Richmond and John Davis. As far as I know their oldest child was born in 1940 but I've searched the beta index's on ancestry back to 1919 and can't find them. Any tips? Lisa |
