I have posted about this person before but here goes with one last attempt to find something! My great-great grandmother was Eliza Amison. In Nov 1880 she married Edward Roberts in Burslem, Stoke on Trent. Her father was named as John Amison, fireman. On 1881 census I can't find her although can find Edward and their son John living with relatives in Burslem. In 1891, she is living with Edward at Port Vale Street in Burslem and gives her place of birth as Yorkshire. She is age 32 so born c1859. in 1901, she is with Edward living at New Street, Wolstanton, aged 41 so born c1860 and place of birth is given as Millsburg, Yorkshire. My problem is that I can find no trace of her prior to her marriage and can find no birth registration. I have tried Amison Emason Aimison Amson and allsorts. I have seen the Amison website and she's not on there. There is no such place as Millsburg in Yorkshire although it has been suggested that it could be Middlebrough. Can anyone suggest anything else or is this the end of the line with this lady? Sam x

Just a thought - have you tried ARNISON? I know that my HORNER rellies are very often mistranscribed as HOMER, so I wouldn't be surprised if the same kind of thing was true the other way round. Even on this site I had to look very carefully at your posting to make sure it was an 'm' and not 'rn'. Kate.

Have you tried the name beginnning with H? Several of mine have added or lost an H at sometime, for example Anson/Hanson. Heather

Sam, have you got her marriage certificate - you might be able to trace her through her father's details

I will try putting a 'H' infront, hadn't thought of that and will try Arnison. Ginny, yes I do have the marriage cert. She has been mis-transcribed as Amson and her father is given as John Amsom (Amison) fireman. Residing in Burslem. I can't find him on any census either! Sam x

Have checked the census return for the NSRI and she wasn't a patient on the 1881 census
