Go to Http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ If you haven't visited their website before, play around with site search, look at their family history section. Then, do their survey. It sounds as if they are contemplating something along the lines of GR, probably more expensive, but including in that package downloads from documentsonline. This would mean the chance to get all the medal cards for a common surname, or checking all the PCC wills for a particular village, or looking at the royal navy seamen's documents, to follow an ancestor's career on the various ships he served on. If you haven't used site search, it now includes A2A, so can pull references to an individual from all sorts of sources.

Nudging, as I surely can't be the ONLY person on GR who regularly uses the TNA website and finds it useful for all sorts of goodies for: Hospital records Manorial documents Early taxation records People involved in court cases besides the Catalogue, which now has over 10 million entries.

I had a look when I saw this thread earlier, but I couldn't find the survey! Never mind, I think last time they did one they sent me an email link to it so maybe the same will happen this time? Kate.

That might be a comment to add on the final box, Kate! It's on the homepage, about the third item down under the heading News from the National Archives. It appears to be a refinement of the survey they sent out earlier,as if they are now considering not only a day's unlimited downloads for a price, but a bundle of other goodies as well.

Hey, did you see in the 'Future Projects' they hope to get funding to put mediaeval seals on line? It reckons most of the seals are for 'ordinary people' not aristos. You are requested to show you are interested to help them get funding.
