Have found census showing my ggrandmother was born in Devon Bradford and the census were taken 1891 Devon civil parish: Bradford, rur district:Holsworthy, Borough Tavistock Exactly where would I find this area. I know where Devon is but can't find anything else on my maps.

Google for Multimap, search for Bradford and you get three options, one in Devon. Heather

There doesn't seem to be any big places near to Bradford, Devon. The nearest I can see is a place called Holdsworthy. If you can find that on your map, Bradford is east and slightly north of Holdsworthy. Above Bradford on my map is written 'Torridge District' Kath. x

Debs, Okehampton is probably the closet large (ish) town to Bradford, have a look on the devonfhs.org this my be of some help. Vanessa

Tavistock is about 10 miles north of Plymouth.

According to Genuki Holsworthy Created 1st July 1837. Mainly in Devonshire, but included part of Cornwall Sub-districts : Ashwater; Black Torrington; Broadwoodwidger; Clawton; Holsworthy; Milton Damerel. GRO volumes : X (1837-51); 5b (1852-1930). Abbots Bickington, Ashwater, Black Torrington, ***Bradford, Bradworthy (from 1849), Bridgerule East, Bridgerule West (from 1844), Broadwoodwidger (1837-52), Clawton, Cookbury, Halwill, Hollacombe, Holsworthy, Luffincott, Milton Damerel, Northcott (1837-52), Pancrasweek, Pyworthy, St. Giles on the Heath (1837-52), Sutcombe, Tetcott, Thornbury, Virginstow (1837-52), West Putford (from 1898). Registers now divided between Torridge and Stratton districts. As it includes part of cornwall, I should find a map and look along the boarder, or just go to www.streetmap*co.uk and look. nell
