I beleive I have traced one of my relatives to this establishment in the 1901 census, but what was it? It is described as 'The Home' It has 15 - 20 female residents described as 'Inmates' - Training for Domestic service. It has a female superintendent, described as working under a committee and a Domestic/ Kitchen matron, various helpers and other staff such as Laundry maids. Curenlty it seems to belong to the Derbyshire Probation Service. One theory we have is that it is a home for unmarried mothers but it is just a guess. Is there anybody in the Derby area that can look it up in the local records for me? Any information would be much appreciated. Regards, David

The 1899 Kelly's directory lists 6 Bass Street as the location of the Derby and Derbyshire home for penitent females. See the Historical Directories website for references. Pete
