Thanks so much guys, Im trying to write a letter re neighbour from hell at the moment, and any good news from you guys helps lift me. So it seems there is an established connection between the Norfolk Horsteads and the Northampton Horsteads. This is a good lead as I was always wondering how this unusual and rare name could be in two different areas without some sort of connection. The first thought of course is the shoe industry which was the main employers for both areas at that time. It would only take a couple of Horstead lads to go to Northampton from Norfolk to produce the large number there. It may also give me a new lead for finding the rotten marriage of Edward Horstead and Elizabeth Selby in c1763. Thanks for your help.

For a long time I have maintained that there must be a connection between the Horstead tribe in Norfolk and the Horsteads in Northampton but have yet to tie them together. It could possibly help in finding the elusive Liz born 1741 who just appears married to Edward in Norfolk in 1763. Anyway, I was tidying up some outer edges and started looking for the family of Richard Horstead (brother of my James who went to London from Norfolk and son of my GGFx4 Jonas Horstead). Richard died pretty young, in Norfolk, but his daughter Ellen married a George Dye, miller and had two children that I can find. The youngest of these, Gordon George H Dye appears (as George G H Dye) in the 1901 as follows: George H G Dye abt 1891 Tharston, Norfolk, England Nephew Holt Norfolk Marion A Horstead abt 1862 Bridingth, Northamptonshire, England Head Holt Norfolk Marion Horstead is shown as private Tutor on own account Gordon has been mistranscribed as George, scholar. So who is Marion? I can find a Maria who was also a daughter of Richard but she was born in Norfolk. Any suggestions, or am I willing a Northampton connection here??
