a great site is, durham mining museum, covers most of the country and its free

I have used this site for tracing a police ancestor. The chap who runs it is scrupulously honest. I requested 5 newspaper cuttings and he returned four with a refund for the fifth because it was an identical syndicated version of one of the others. He didn't have to do that and I feel such honesty restores your faith in human nature.
