Hi Thanks for the replies Phoenix - Have not found them in 1861 , Am waiting for a b cert for William. Birth certs for Edward were all right area , but either had wrong father or mother. You are right Jane could be second wife, which could be the problem. I am hoping that William's cert will show whether that is the case. Just wish I could find the bapt/christening at least Thanks Heather I ll shall try that Fred |

I've just had a second look at the family group. Jane might have married after Edward's birth. There is such a big gap between her and Thomas that she may well be a second wife. Have you found the family in 1861? |

Have you checked for Steven, Stephens etc, also looking for X.... E Stevens? It is also possible that the birth was not registered. Have you looked for any other of the children? If the worst came to the worst, a certificate either side of 1869 would confirm that the mother was the same for elder and younger children. |

What birth certs did you get for Edward - were they right area? Did you ask for a check on parents names? If you go to familyrelatives.org you can probably still claim 10 free units by registering, clicking on purchase units, put LC2005 in the top promo code box, click and get 10 freebies. Then use the name searchable 1866-1920 period. Enter the event, the surname and just one first name and an area - probably best to use the map option and click on London and then you will bring up every matching Edward in the time period you choose - say 2 years before and 2 years after his census year of birth born in London. |

Hi June, yes that's them in '71. Although Thomas & Jane's ages differ in censuses, Edward's always seem to point to c1869. i..e 2 in 1871 12 in 1881 , 22 in 1891 etc etc I have trawled a number of years either way just in case , and applied for numerous Birt Certs, but none match . |

Have you looked at the beta BMD on Ancestry? - free while it's beta (i.e test-mode). People have been known to dis-acquire (or acquire) quite a lot of years when it suited them to do so - either to marry young without parental permission, or to marry someone much younger without appearing too old themselves. Only 3 years may not be enough. You can trawl through the GRO index images yourself - and maybe spot something someone else may not recognise. Christine |

Anyone know how I can find this person's christening/baptism Edward Stevens b 1869 Limehouse according to Marriage Cert, various censuses etc. Father was Thomas according to Edward's marr cert. Mother should be Jane according to Censuses, but don't know her surname. Searched BMD's and requested 3 years search for birth cert. No luck . Any help gratefully accepted Fred |
