'marrying' two people that already exist in a tree

On GR you can only use the option of entering the person twice,if you were to use a program such as Family Tree Maker you can 'merge' the individuals, they then only show once, and you can decide which partner to show as the prefered option first, print or export ascendants/descendants of the partners etc. GR use the simplest software they can and it cannot cope with anything more complicated than complete strangers becoming a married couple. Best save the pennies and look for a decent tree program,at the very least you need the back up it will provide. If you budget for around £25 you can get FTM WDYTYA,from the internet. Glen

Hi Alan I've got a few like this. My dad's sister married my mum's brother and another of dad's sister's married one of mum's cousins. They all got together a mum and dad's wedding! I had to put them all on twice. Hope this helps. Jan

You would need to do this on a family tree program on your computer. Then you can export your tree as a gedcom from genes to your computer to save typing in. You then need to put the relevant people in place and exported as a gedcom back to genes try google for free downloads of family tree programs www*legacyfamilytree*com is an easy on to use Sue

Alan, I've had this problem too. The way I've done it, is to put the names on again. ie..they are both with their parents and again recorded with their partners. Does that make sense? Sue

I've tied asking the helpdesk if there is a way to do this on Genesreunited but despite their claim to answer all enquiries within 2 working days I've heard nothing. At the moment I can only add a new partner to someone in my tree. I need to make a marriage between two people that already exist in my tree. Anyone managed this? Alan
