I know it's a long shot but... does anyone have access to a Kellys or other Directory for 1944 Derby area? I have just found a great uncle cited as the informant on a death certificate and I have never come across him before. He was L H HALL, living at 74 Western Road, Micklesover, Derby (on 4th December 1944). Can anyone advise 1. His given names & 2. Anyone else who was also living at the address. I would normally go to the library to look something like this up, but this one is about 400 miles away and not so easy to reach! Any help would be gratefully appreciated

Thank you Laura, I have no other information on L H HALL other than what is mentioned in my original message. I have never come across this person (my GG uncle) and would like to find out his given names (L H isn't much to go on!) and any other people who might have been living with him. I know from looking at other Kellys Directories in my local library, they often have lists of streets and names of the adults who were living there. I know it's a long shot but I'm not sure where else to look to kick start this part of my tree. L H HALL had four brothers that I know of, one was my grandfather and he was estranged from his brothers (I thought there were only three) after the death of their father. Consequently I don't know much about this side of the family and am keen to gather whatever clues I can. many thanks

i have Kellys 1912/32/41 will have a look for you. There is only 1 Hall in the Kellys 1941 directory of Derbyshire at Mickleover. he is Horace Campbell Hall, 14 Pastures avenue, Littleover, Derby. I go to the Derby Local Studies Library every saturday, the best book to look in would be The Whipple Derby County & Borough Directory 1935, this unlike Kellys, which is a small sample of residents, gives the head of every household in Derby and surrounding area, both Street by Street and Alphabetical, so this would be the best one to locate him in, then you may get the adults on the Electrol Roll, if it goes out as far as Mickleover, can't quite remember if it does, Littleover is for certain on the rolls, i can have a look if you get no further. they also have the parish registers for Mickleover

Thank you Gary My L H HALL I believe would have been born in the Southwick, Willington or Sunderland areas (his brothers were born in these places) so it's unlikely that his birth was here. However his mother was 72 when he informed her death in Co Durham and so he would have been in his 40s / 50s and probably moved to Derby for work reasons. He may have been married in this area and possibly died there. But as I don't have his given names I have nowhere to start my searches.
