a Commercial Traveller? I am trying to find immigration records to Canada for William Christie. On both the Canadian 1871 and 1881 he is listed as Com. Traveller. I found an immigration entry for a William Christie who is a Merchant and was wondering at the possibility of them being the same thing.

Quite possible. Some of mine were commercial travellers and occasionally they had delusions of grandeur on census day and called themselves merchants !!!

Might follow that one through then Jools -- I think the Immigration Records had more info than what was in the book I saw, so hopefully can give me parents names etc.
