I have a Chas in 1901 census too - he is a Charles & has been the bain of my family tree :-) Penny

Yes Chas, Chuck both Charles. Just like Henry's are known as Harry?? wish i knew why but i don't :(

I have a Chas but can anyone tell me is Chas just the shortened version that the enumorator used? ....short for Charles? eg: Hny=Henry.....elz=Elizabeth. I'd like to know if MY chas was indeed Chas or was he Charles.
