Are you sure you need all these certificates? You should consider the value of the information you get. On the other hand, I do agree it can be an expensive hobby - but, hey - you could be wasting your money on booze, cigarettes and wild parties. Hmmmmm. Maybe I should get a life. |

My project is an ancestral chart, so I try to confine my cert-buying to direct-line ancestors. I tend to weaken, though, if there's something particularly interesting or intriguing about a person! I also try to get a photo-copy of the Parish Register page for weddings, where I can, because that's almost always cheaper than a cert - unless there are very substantial admin fees attached. (It isn't unreasonable to pay for professional time, if you have to ask someone else to get the copy for you and post it, but it can price the copies out of my budget!) I also like the fact that the Parish Register is the source-document for the certificate and has the originals of the signatures - not transcriptions. Some Baptism Registers give a date of birth - which saves another cert. I know it doesn't have the same authoritative air, but the birth-date info given at the Church is likely to be at least as accurate as that given to the civil Registrar. Christine |

the certs i have sent for are of my nan and some of her siblings, i know who there parents were, but i thought it would just be nice to have-----especially my nans, i have a copy of her marriage cert, my auntie has the original, she did have her death cert but can't find it, so i have that to look for! i also have great grans birth & marriage cert, it's such a lovely feeling to hold that bit of history in your hands isn't it! next on my list is the birth cert of nans dad---i've already found that. |
