I just thought i would tell you that i put workhouse york into the search and got a lot of info on the work house in york. Even the list of inmates and staff on the 1881 census. Facinating!

I searched for 'Union Workhouses' and found masses of info on them, including the Andover Union Workhouse, which I hope is NOT the one my GG Grandmother and GGG Grandmother were in before they were brought into our family to look after the children. There was a huge scandal in the mid 1800's over how the inmates were so badly treated. Happy ending there, GG Grandfather married the daughter after he was widowed, and without that I wouldn't be here. T x
