I cant find a marriage and dont know where to look next. I have a Martha Curnow Toman, who was born in St Ives, Cornwall, in 1885. She supposedly married a Robert (Bob) John Beard. They moved to Long Beach, California, and he died on 7 February 1952 and was buried in Sunnyside Memorial Park. I think I have found details of her death, ie 14 April 1970 in Los Angeles, but cant find any record of their marriage. This is really doing my head in for some reason. Any help would be much appreciated, many thanks Bex

Aw, thank you so much :) I couldn't find it anywhere! Even thought they may have been married on board the ship on the way to America, or didnt get married at all, lol. Many many thanks! Bex Have you any idea why couldnt I find any details of her marriage, and why she isnt listed on the same page as her husband? Sorry, am a bit new to this, lol. Many thanks.

I found the marriage reference on Ancestry's BMD's (Beta Version) which is free to search. Each person is shown individually in an alphabetical list of their names. I just worked on the principal that a lot of women get married at about the age of 21 (I did myself), so started searching in the March qtr. of 1906, and then found her on the second page I looked at which was the June qtr. I then checked the same qtr of 1906 under her husbands name, to make sure he was listed with the same volume and page numbers which he was. Kath. x

If you use that reference with GRO, you should be able to get the certificate from there. They have an Online service. The basic price, with reference, is £7. Christine

You might be able to get a copy of the parish register page if you do a bit of additional research. It's often cheaper than a formal cert, and has the orginal signatures, not transcriptions of them. Try this bit of the St Ives OPC website http://west-penwith.org.uk/wpenmar.htm Christine
